Former two division world champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez has showered down heavy praise for the current WBO super welterweight champion, unbeaten Brian Castano, and also analyzed who, in his opinion, will be the next three superstar fighters that Argentina will have.

Since Martinez's departure from the sport, there had been a minor drought in world class talent from Argentina, but in recent years the level of talent has picked up.

Even Martinez himself resumed his career in 2020 after six years of retirement.

Castano added a world title to his country earlier this year, with a dominant twelve round unanimous decision over Patrick Teixeira.

The unbeaten boxer is now looking to face WBA, IBF, WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo in a full division unification.

“Argentina always has good boxers and today Castano is a super machine and has been for many years now. In fact, he won the world title against Patrick Teixeira in an overwhelming way,” said Martinez.

“As long as he continues to have his feet firmly planted on the ground, as he has been, and he understands that this is a sport but also a business, as he has up to this point, his career will continue to grow and in Argentina he will be a kid who is widely recognized - and he deserves it.”

Regarding the generational change that is coming in his country, the experienced boxer who lives in the Motherland said that "we have Agustín Gauto, Alberto Palmetta and Alberto Melián and, as I already said, the next three world champions [in Argentina], and I'll put my signature to that anywhere.

"Then there is Jeremías Ponce, there are other boxers, there is a good bed of seeds [in the country], there is a good school [of boxing here], there is a good base."
