Sergio Martinez continues to win in his comeback to the ring.

Martinez notched another victory Tuesday night, knocking out Jhon Teheran in the opening round at the famed Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The 48-year-old improved to 57-3-2, 32 knockouts.

From the opening bell, the southpaw Martinez walked Teheran down, unleashing a barrage of punches that backed Teheran up against the ropes. During an exchange, Martinez threw a combination, finishing with a left hand to the head that dropped Teheran to the canvas. Referee Gerardo Poggi counted Teheran out at 1:27.

Replays showed that Martinez’s punch landed on Teheran’s glove, but the impact of the punch might have done the damage to hurt Teheran, where he winded up on the canvas.

“I’m very happy,” said Martinez, addressing the crowd after the fight. “Listen, don’t let anyone make you believe that 48 years is too a lot. Because it’s not correct.”

Martinez also announced he would like to fight for a world title before the age of 49.

Tuesday’s win marked a homecoming for Martinez, who fought for the first time in the Buenos Aires area since his April 2013 victory over Martin Murray, which took place in a soccer stadium on a rainy night. Martinez grew up in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Quilmes.

Martinez has won his last six fights since his knockout loss to Miguel Cotto in June 2014. He returned to the ring over six years later, knocking out Jose Fandino. Prior to the Teheran fight, Martinez fought on December 11, knocking out overmatched Noah Kidd in the second round.

Teheran, who resides in San Onofre, Colombia, falls to 18-3, 15 KOs. The 38-year-old is 3-3 in his last six fights.

In featherweight action, and in a fight featuring fighters who reside in the Buenos Aires area, Hector Andres Sosa defeated Laureano Sciuto by unanimous decision.

Scores were 97-93, 97-93, and 98-92 for Sosa, who improved to 15-2, 8 KOs.

Sciuto suffered his first defeat as a pro and dropped to 11-1, 7 KOs.

The card was promoted by Juan Eduardo Brignone.
