Having grown up watching Oscar de la Hoya proudly represent East Los Angeles, Seniesa Estrada is ready to take the first step toward emulating her boxing idol and promoter.

The moment comes this weekend, when the unbeaten boxer moves down in weight in a bid to challenge long-reigning WBA strawweight titlist Anabel Ortiz. The fight takes place this Saturday, live on DAZN from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

For Estrada (19-0, 8KOs), it represents her third weight class in as many fights. The goal by fight’s end is for it to represent the first of many titles wins in the years ahead.

“I would like to win all major titles at 105 pounds and all major titles at 108 pounds,” Estrada told DAZN’s Claudia Trejos. “Then at 112, I plan win titles there as well.

“So, I see my career finishing as champion in all three weight classes.”

The goal is not that dissimilar to that of de la Hoya, her fellow East Los Angeleno whom she proudly followed as a kid first introduced to the sport. World title wins in six weight divisions would come for “The Golden Boy”, along with a Gold medal win for the United States at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

Estrada’s biggest win to date came versus an Olympian, having outpointed 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist Marlen Esparza in a Nov. 2019 grudge match between unbeaten bitter rivals in Las Vegas. An interim flyweight title was at stake, though her last fighting that heavy as she has since embarked on a journey down the scale en route to her first major title.

A pit stop came at junior flyweight, where Estrada knocked out Miranda Atkins in a record-breaking seven seconds last July in Indio, California. Fighting at that weight felt closer to her physical peak, as she believes will also be the case entering the ring three pounds lighter this weekend.

“It’s my first fight at 105 pounds but I’m excited,” notes Estrada. “105 and 108 pounds are my natural weight classes where I should have always been fighting at from the beginning of my career.”
