LOS ANGELES – One of boxing’s brightest female stars is now a free agent.

Seniesa Estrada and Golden Boy Promotions have severed their relationship, Golden Boy Chief Operating Officer Robert Gasparri told BoxingScene.com.

The divorce comes after the minimumweight and light flyweight world champion Estrada (22-0, 9 KOs) kept pressing Golden Boy calling for a renegotiated contract over the last few months.

BoxingScene.com senior writer Jake Donovan reported last month there was an offer for Estrada to face Anabel Ortiz in a rematch on the Vergil Ortiz-Michael McKinson card on Aug. 6 in Fort Worth, Texas, but Estrada and Golden Boy ultimately couldn’t come to terms on a new deal.

“Seniesa is a great fighter. She’d been with Golden Boy for a long time. We gave her a platform. We built her up. Golden Boy provided her with the blueprint like we always do,” said Gasparri.

“What happens is, at the end of the day, I don’t know if it’s numbers or whatever, we can do so much. As a promoter, a lot of times they look at us as the, you know, ‘why can’t we do more whatever.’ There’s a great deal of money involved to put these shows on. I can’t comment on the details of it. I know some stuff is still fluid. We wish Seniesa the best. She’s a wonderful person. I’m sure she will do very well wherever she goes.”

In addition to her fighting career, Estrada has been blossoming as a broadcaster.

On Saturday, as the news of her split became official, she was ringside commentating for DAZN’s Golden Boy card headlined by Ryan Garcia’s sixth-round knockout of Javier Fortuna.

“Super Bad” Estrada, a 30-year-old Los Angeles-born and bred boxer, last fought in December and scored a fourth-round knockout against Maria Micheo Santizo.
