Isiah Jones survived six rounds with Nikoloz Sekhniashvili on Tuesday night, but he lost their six-round middleweight match handily.

Sekhniashvili consistently landed the harder punches and was the aggressor throughout a bout ESPN televised from MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. The 26-year-old middleweight prospect from The Republic of Georgia improved to 6-0 and went the distance for the second time since he turned pro in April 2018.

Sekhniashvili won all six rounds on the scorecards of judges Eric Cheek (60-54) and Patricia Morse-Jarman (60-54). Judge Ricardo Ocasio scored one round for Jones (59-55).

Detroit’s Jones (8-2, 3 KOs) hasn’t been knocked out in 10 professional fights. Prior to Tuesday night, Jones had lost only a six-round unanimous decision to Destyne Butler (9-0, 5 KOs) in his last fight, November 30 in Cleveland.

An aggressive Sekhniashvili tried to knock out Jones throughout the sixth round, but he couldn’t hurt the backpedaling Jones.

Sekhniashvili landed two hard right hands in the first minute of the fifth round. A right uppercut by Sekhniashvili connected with just over 40 seconds to go in the fifth.

An overhand right by Sekhniashvili landed flush just before the fourth round ended, yet Jones took it well. Jones went on the offensive earlier in the fourth round, although that didn’t keep Sekhniashvili from coming forward.

A right uppercut by Sekhniashvili caught Jones while he was backing up early in the third round.

Sekhniashvili landed a right-left combination to Jones’ body with just under 30 seconds to go in the second round.

Sekhniashvili out-landed Jones in the first round, but the stronger fighter didn’t seem to hurt Jones at any point in the first three minutes of their fight. Jones tried to work off his jab and held Sekhniashvili at times.
