In a recent report on BoxingScene.com, undefeated flyweight prospect Jonathan "Bomba" Gonzalez (10-0, 9 KO's) challenged former world champion Giovanni Segura (28-2-1 y 24 KO’s). Gonzalez said that he can KO Segura in only six rounds and want to fight Segura in January.

Gonzalez also discussed Segura's two victories against veteran Ivan Calderon, stating that he defeated Calderon because the Puerto Rican boxer was fighting outside of his division.

The former Mexican champion rejected Gonzalez's challenge:

"I'm not interested in fighting against him, that’s means [taking a step] back in my career, but in the future maybe. This is not Christmas where you just have to ask [for something] like a child and they bring you your gift. I worked hard to get to where I am [and] I am not here to fulfill [the] whims of children,” expressed Segura.
