Sebastian Fundora is in line for a quick turnaround fight following his impressive slugfest and fourth-round TKO win over Jorge Cota in May.

The undefeated 6’5½” junior middleweight contender is still awaiting a confirmed fight date for his agreed-upon 12-round bout versus Spain’s Sergio Garcia. There has been loose talk of the fight taking place later this summer, with Fundora (17-0-1, 12KOs) informing media members over the weekend of a possible August 7 date set aside for the bout.

“I have Sergio Garcia on August 7, hopefully in LA. They are talking about LA,” Fundora told ESNews on Saturday, while in attendance for Chris Colbert’s win over Tugstsogt Nyambayar at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The venue has hosted four PBC-branded events since the pandemic, with at least one more to come on August 14.

Fundora was in attendance watching his sister Gabriela Fundora secure her second career victory on the undercard. The suggestion of his bout versus Garcia landing at the venue atop an August 7 PBC on Fox telecast has yet to be confirmed. PBC representatives declined comment on the topic, as it is not company practice to discuss fight dates that are not formally announced.

The previous edition of PBC on Fox aired June 27 from The Armory in Minneapolis. Digital banners that ran throughout the evening suggested that the venue would next host an August 7 show, though with no further details attached to the date regarding the main event.

The 23-year-old Fundora (17-0-1, 12 KOs) is promoted by Sampson Lewkowicz’s Sampson Boxing and fights exclusively under the Premier Boxing Champions banner. The PBC website does not yet have Aug. 7 listed as an event date on their website.

The 28-year-old Garcia (33-0, 14 KOs) is a Spaniard who has fought just once outside of his home country. The super welterweight nicknamed “El Nino” scored a unanimous decision win over then-undefeated Ted Cheesman in 2019.

Outside of Cheesman, Garcia’s wins have come over opponents with mostly uneven records.

The “Towering Inferno” Fundora will present Garcia with a much taller task.

Fundora was last featured on the FOX pay-per-view undercard headlined by Andy Ruiz’s win over Chris Arreola. Fundora's bout with Cota was a phone booth-type fight in which Fundora landed 141 punches and absorbed 62 shots in just four rounds before referee Ray Corona stepped in to stop the fight while Cota was still standing.
