Sebastian Fundora never weighs more than 160 pounds, not even when he isn’t training for a fight.

The 6-foot-6 southpaw’s discipline paid dividends at the scale again Friday, when Fundora easily met his division’s limit for a 12-round, 154-pound title defense against Brian Mendoza. Fundora weighed in at 153.3 pounds, slightly lighter than Mendoza, when he stepped on the California State Athletic Commission’s scale at The Westin LAX in Los Angeles.

Mendoza came in at 153.5 pounds for their “Showtime Championship Boxing” main event Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. They’ll fight for Fundora’s WBC interim super welterweight title and a spot as one of the mandatory challengers for fully unified 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo.

Most sportsbooks have made Fundora (20-0-1, 13 KOs), of Coachella, California, an 11-1 favorite to beat Albuquerque’s Mendoza (21-2, 15 KOs).

Mendoza is full of confidence, however, because he knocked out former IBF/IBO/WBA 154-pound champion Jeison Rosario (23-4-1, 17 KOs) in his last fight. Mendoza took that bout on only 10 days’ notice, but he dropped Rosario in the second round and finished him with a vicious right uppercut that sent the Dominican Republic’s Rosario to the canvas again in the fifth round November 5 at The Armory in Minneapolis.

The official weights for fights on the Fundora-Mendoza undercard are listed below.
