Zinnowitz - At the fourth edition of the Fritz Sdunek Memorial on Saturday evening in Zinnowitz, two ECB boxers Sebastian Formella and Volkan Gokcek stepped into the ring.

While Gokcek recently won in France, Formella was able to report convincingly after a long break from the ring.

Formella had not been in the ring for more than 300 days.

Last time out, the 34-year-old welterweight boxed unbeaten contender Conor Benn and suffered a decision loss. After suffering a slipped disc in that fight, Formella feared that it might be the end of his active boxing career.

The man from Hamburg continued to train hard and got professional help from a sports physiotherapist. He stabilized his back and struggled bit by bit to regain his old form.

In the fight against substitute opponent Gabor Kovacs, who jumped in on short notice, the hard work paid off.

Formella was able to secure a TKO victory in the fourth round - and the back held out. Before that, he clearly dominated every round against the Hungarian fighter.

"The only thing that counts for me is that my body is fine and that I can be sure that I am fully resilient again. I really want to have another fight this year," said the man from Hamburg.

Gokcek also scored another victory in his young professional career.

The super lightweight prospect, a native of Turkey, achieved the eighth victory in the eighth fight of his career with a second round stoppage.
