Sean Turner will return to the ring later this month ahead of his first title fight.

The Dublin heavyweight, who will take on Con Sheehan in a recently sanctioned showdown for the vacant Irish title later in the year, is set for a warm-up.

Turner (10-0, 7 KOs) has been added to MTK Birmingham’s April 22 card at the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in Solihull.

On that card, he will finally face Polish tough-man Kamil Sokolowski (3-9, 1 KO).

‘Big Sexy’ was initially due to face the Plymouth-based boxer on the inaugural Ginley Promotions bill on March 3 before he was forced off the card at late notice.

The fight was then rescheduled for seven days later, at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, exclusively live on BoxNation.

Turner remained on that Frank Warren-promoted card, which was topped by Jamie Conlan’s points victory over Nicaragua’s Yader Cardoza for the vacant WBC International Silver super-flyweight title, but Sokolowski withdrew and Igor Mihaljevic, the late replacement, was dispatched of inside two rounds.

The fight, which was rubber-stamped after Sokolowski knocked out AJ Carter at the National Sports Centre on April 1, will be Turner’s first under the tutelage of new trainer Pete Taylor, the father of undefeated lightweight Katie Taylor, with whom he has linked up with full time in the past few weeks.

Sheehan, who is trained by Peter Fury, was last in action on the March 10 bill at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast. He went eight rounds with Ferenc Zsalek.

Further details regarding the fight between Turner and Sheehan will be revealed in due course.

In other news, Irish super-featherweight champion James Tennyson, who knocked out Declan Geraghty in Belfast last month to win the vacant crown, will return to the ring on May 27 at the National Stadium in Dublin.

Also on that card, which is promoted by Leonard Gunning and Tony Davitt, Tallaght lightweight Liam Gaynor will make his professional debut. He has turned pro under long-time trainer Stephen Kavanagh at Kilnamanagh Boxing Club.

And Dubliner Stephen McAfee, 25, will make the move to the paid code. He, Boxing Scene understands, is currently considering his options ahead of a summer debut.
