Sean McGoldrick got a win on his hometown debut and kept up his unbeaten record.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist, who recently left Tony Borg and joined forces with Gavin Rees, moved to 7-0 in Cardiff.

McGoldrick took on Dylan McDonagh over eight rounds at the Ice Arena in the Welsh capital, exclusively live on Sky Sports.

And the 26-year-old bantamweight outpointed his fellow Celt on the undercard of Joe Cordina’s bid to add the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title to his WBA International belt against Sean Dodd.

He was victorious by 78 points to 76 on the referee Reece Carter’s scorecard.

“There are still plenty of improvements to be made,” McGoldrick, who will return at Vale Sports Arena in Cardiff on September 7, exclusively live on iFL TV, said afterwards. “I’ve been stuck between styles in the past and you’re going to see a lot more of a pro style from me in my upcoming fights.

“I’ll take a lot from that fight and there will be a lot more to come from me.”

In defeat, the previously undefeated McDonagh slipped to 3-1, after taking the fight on just four days’ notice.
