Scott Fitzgerald has withdrawn from his next fight.

The British super-welterweight champion had been set to return next month.

Fitzgerald was meant to have a routine outing at Manchester Arena ahead of a much-anticipated rematch against Anthony Fowler.

But the Commonwealth Games gold medallist, who outpointed Fowler in their first meeting back in March 2019, won’t feature on the undercard of Scott Quigg’s clash against Jono Carroll on March 7 and will instead fight on another date.

‘Mad Man’ Fitzgerald, from Preston, is no longer on the show after admitting that he wasn’t in the best physical condition.

Fowler, meanwhile, will defend his WBA International super-welterweight title against Jack Flatley on the card as he looks for another win to set up the return with his fellow former Team GB man.

"Fowler lives the life and looks after his weight at all times,” said Fitzgerald. “I'm a dafty, that's my fault. But I want the fight, I'll beat him up worse.”

The supporting cast to Quigg’s clash with Carroll, which will take place somewhere around super-featherweight, is a stellar one.

Ibrahim Nadim, who made his professional debut back in December, will return on the card, alongside Aqib Fiaz, former Commonwealth middleweight title challenger Jack Cullen, Sheffield's Dalton Smith, undefeated middleweight Brad Rea and Fowler’s fellow Liverpudlian and former Team GB starlet Blane Hyland.

Zach Parker and Rohan Murdock meet in an eliminator to determine the mandatory challenger for Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO world title at super-middleweight, while there is action set for Robbie Davies Jr. and heavyweight Hughie Fury as he looks to get back to winning ways.
