As BoxingScene.com previously reported, British junior middleweight champion Scott Fitzgerald was arrested on Monday after a physical confrontation with his former partner.

Now it's been revealed that Fitzgerald has been charged with three counts of common assault and one count of witness intimidation.

It's being alleged that the 28-year-old fighter assaulted two women aged 21 and 42, and a 23-year-old man. Lancashire Police told BBC Sport that Fitzgerald was due to appear at Preston Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The British Boxing Board of Control have suspended Fitzgerald's boxing licence - pending further investigation into the incident. The sport of boxing is currently on a hiatus due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The British Board have canceled all events until the end of May.

Fitzgerald won gold for England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and he's undefeated in his 14 fights as a pro.

Last year, he pulled off the biggest win of his career, when he won a tough decision over his domestic rival Anthony Fowler, who went down in the final round. And later in the year he won a controversial decision over Ted Cheeseman to win the British title.

Fitzgerald's father had recently discussed how his son struggled with alcohol and substance abuse. The boxer had recently left a rehabilitation facility, where he was working hard to get himself clean.
