Floyd Schofield Jr. is ready for his close-up.

The 20-year-old lightweight vows to rise to the occasion in his first televised main event. The moment comes this Thursday, when Schofield faces Mexico City’s Daniel Rosas (22-5-1, 14KOs) atop a Golden Boy Fight Night on DAZN show from Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

“I didn’t expect to get a headliner this quick. They signed me and promised to deliver big opportunities,” Schofield told BoxingScene.com. “I didn’t believe it at first that it would happen right away. It blew my mind. Since it was announced that I’m the headliner, training camp has become harder than ever. We’re training for my best performance yet because this is like a dream come true.”

It follows another boxing lifelong dream of Schofield (11-0, 9KOs), which was to sign with Golden Boy Promotions and specifically fight for Hall of Fame six-division titlist and company founder Oscar De La Hoya. He made the most of his unofficial audition, tearing through former junior bantamweight titlist Rodrigo Guerrero in the fifth round of a Vergil Ortiz Jr.-headlined DAZN show on August 6 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Schofield—who fights out of Austin, Texas—signed with Golden Boy just 12 days later, as the company entered a co-promotional agreement with Davies Entertainment. The move fulfilled a years-long goal set out by the young boxer and his father/head trainer, Floyd Schofield Sr.

“My dad always told me that we would end up with Golden Boy,” revealed Schofield. “I remember since I was at least 13 years old. Honestly, I’m glad we made this decision. Oscar hitting me up personally really made me want to go to Golden Boy.

“For the owner to hit me up like that, it meant everything. I’m gonna reward them by putting on a show. I’m gonna deliver an amazing performance. I made the sacrifices I needed to in this game, and deliver that big knockout. This is my first headliner, I know I need to make a big statement."
