The legal dispute between promoter Don King, and light heavyweight contender Ryan Coyne (21-0, 9KOs), will head to a hearing on November 1 in New York. King is attempting to secure a legal order to block Coyne from facing WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (24-0, 11KOs) in a Showtime televised fight on November 10th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

On Thursday, King filed an Order To Show Cause in federal court, seeking a preliminary injunction to prevent the fight. King and Coyne are disputing their promotional agreement. Coyne believes the contract has already expired, while King feels confident that he still has a promotional hold on Coyne.

King, by way of his attorney, asked the court to issue an order for the following:  "preliminarily and permanently enjoining defendant Ryan Coyne from engaging in any professional boxing bouts that are not arranged, secured and promoted or consented to by Don King Productions, Inc. ("DKP") during the tenn of Coyne's exclusive promotional agreement with DKP, including but not limited to a bout scheduled for November 10,2012 against Nathan Cleverly in Los Angeles."

Both sides were ordered to submit their documents by tomorrow at 3PM EST. A hearing has been scheduled for November 1 at 9:30am.

The November 10th event is being promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. Golden Boy's CEO, Richard Schaefer, has made it clear that King's legal action will not prevent Cleverly from defending his title on the show. Cleverly will appear on the show - with or without Coyne in the opposite corner. Due to King's legal threats to Showtime and Cleverly's promoter Frank Warren, members of Coyne's team are expecting their boxer to be replaced.

"Nathan Cleverly will definitely be on the card. Frank Warren, Nathan and his team will not let themselves be extorted by Don King. This is a voluntary defense from Nathan Clevery and if this drags out Coyne will simply be replaced. This is a dispute between Coyne and his promoter and has nothing to do with Nathan Cleverly or his promoter Frank Warren," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
