Saul Sanchez arrived in style on the Boxeo Telemundo circuit.

The once-beaten junior featherweight made quick work of veteran Daniel Lozano, scoring a 1st round stoppage in their main event Friday evening at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. Sanchez scored three knockdowns, the last of which forced the end of the contest at 1:12 of the first round in their Telemundo-televised headliner.

Sanchez was in control through the brief affair, which also served as his East Coast debut. The 23-year old from Pacoima, California landed in combination and immediately frustrating Lozano. Left hooks were finding their home regularly though it was the straight right hand which would produce the most damage. A straight right sent Lozano to the canvas just 1:20 into the opening round.

Lozano—a Telemundo regular but whom has fallen on hard times in his struggling career—managed to beat the count but spent the rest of the fight under pressure. Sanchez continued to come forward, punishing Lozano along the ropes with a series of power punches including a left hook to the body to produce the bout’s second knockdown.

Sanchez ended the fight moments later, with a final right hand stunning Lozano to the point of forcing him to take a knee. It was enough for the referee who waved off the contest shortly into his count.

The win is the second straight for Sanchez since suffering his lone career loss last August. While not at all lacking confidence in his own ability, the fight exceeded his own expectations.

“I didn’t think it would end that early,” stated Sanchez, who improves to 14-1 (8KOs) in fighting for the first time outside of his home state of California. “I thought it was going at least eight rounds.”

Lozano falls to 15-10-1 (11KOs). The Bowling Green, Florida native—who turns 31 in November—is now winless in his last seven starts, though enjoyed a strong showing in an eight round draw with unbeaten Jorge Romero in this very venue last August.

UNDERCARD

Anaheim's Pedro Salome cruised to a four-round unanimous decision over Alexander Mancil in their junior featherweight battle of pro-debuters. Scores were 40-36, 39-37 and 39-37 in favor of Salome who was the aggressor throughout the brief affair. Mancil struggled to maintain pace, and at one point was threatened with a point deduction for excessively spitting out his mouthpiece.

Another bout pitting two boxers fighting for the first time in the pro ranks saw Floyd 'Kid Austin' Schofield (1-0, 1KO) rack up a 1st round knockout of Richard Esquibel. A picture perfect left hook by the Austin, Texas native caught Esquibel (0-1) flush, sending him to the canvas and leaving him unsteady as he attempted to beat the count. The fight was halted at 1:40 of round one.
