Abel Sanchez, trainer of IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), believes Daniel Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) will be the dominant force 160-pounds - after GGG moves up to the super middleweight division of 168.

Back in March at New York's Madison Square Garden, Golovkin won a close twelve round unanimous decision over Jacobs. The three judges scored it 114-113, 115-112, 115-112.

Jacobs was able to accomplish three feats that few expected - Golovkin was forced to go the full twelve round distance for the first time in his career, Golovkin's 23 knockout streak was broken, and the fight contest was very competitive.

Sanchez was not surprised about the toughness of Jacobs. The veteran trainer believes a lot of experts underestimated the ability and resilience of Jacobs.

"We fought in our last fight the second best middleweight in the world, and you will find that when Golovkin moves to another weight, Jacobs will be the dominant force at 160lbs. Jacobs is going to have the same hard time as we had in trying to get opponents. Not only is he a big guy but he’s very skilled, and when you get to that level, you find that not everybody is going to get knocked out," Sanchez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

"I was satisfied with the decision, I was satisfied with the way he fought. Fighters need to know that they can go twelve rounds, and I think Golovkin proved to himself that he could go twelve hard rounds and still come out on top."

The next move for Jacobs is unknown, but Golovkin will face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 16th in what is the biggest possible match to make in 2017.

Many wonder if Golovkin's performance in his last fight was a motivating factor for Canelo to finalize their very anticipated matchup?

"That could have a bearing on it a little bit. I think they took the fight because it’s a fight that has been built up and now it’s getting to the crescendo where it’s a fight that the fans have a huge interest in. I’ve gotten a lot of emails, a lot of messages, a lot of questions, the fans are excited," Sanchez said.

"This is the best fight that can be made for boxing and I think that the timing is perfect for it, being on Independence day and hopefully it’s in a place where the fans appreciate it. I think the timing of it was correct, I don’t think the fact that they think that Golovkin is deteriorating had much bearing on why they made the fight."
