Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), says a rematch with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) must take place for the "good of boxing."

The two sides are in serious discussions to stage the rematch on May 5th, Cinco De Mayo weekend, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

"I want that fight in May. Boxing fans need that fight in May, but they are two guys who are stars and have to agree on the purses," Sanchez said to Euard Cauich.

The Tijuana coach said that Golovkin is in his native Kazakhstan, visiting his family.

"When the fight ends, I usually let them go after being with me for 10 week, I let them live their lives. He is with his family right now, but he is going to return this coming week, but I do not know how the negotiations are going. That question is for Tom Loeffler but I'm looking for to get us that fight," Sanchez said.

For Sanchez, Golovkin can still do a lot in the second match, but criticized the style of Canelo, who used an elusive strategy in the first match.

Their contest, which took place last September at the T-Mobile, ended in a controversial twelve round split draw - and there was an immediate demand for a rematch.

Sanchez believes Canelo was always on the move in the first meeting, because he was worried about the possibility of getting knocked out.

"He knew [Golovkin] were going to knock him out if he stopped, Golovkin still have a lot to give. But it depends on the styles, if you face a defensive style, it will be difficult to demonstrate what you still have," Sanchez said.

Sanchez explained that in the second match, Golovkin is fully capable of landing "landing a good shot and finishing his opponent."
