Experienced trainer Abel Sanchez is expecting some very big things this year for his star fighter, IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight world champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs).

The first order of business for Golovkin is a mandatory defense against IBF #2 ranked Dominic Wade (18-0, 12KOs).

Wade, 25-years-old, is still regarded by many as a growing prospect and he's been inactive since winning what some saw as a controversial split decision over former world champion Sam Solimon last June.

The fight with Wade would take place on April 23rd, at The Forum in Los Angeles. The original opponent was going to be IBF number one Tureano Johnson. He suffered a shoulder injury and has to undergo surgery, which forced the sanctioning body to tap the number two contender, who was Wade.

"Right now we are forced to fight the IBF number two, which is Dominic Wade - because the number one, Tureano Johnson... he injured his shoulder. That fight [with Wade] will be in April, and in September or at the end of this year - the World Boxing Council has ordered Canelo [to face GGG]. After his fight in May, he will have to negotiate a fight against Gennady" Sanchez said.

"That fight is good for the business of boxing, I think fans all over the world are expect this fight. After Canelo's next fight, and if we succeed [in April] - all of the belts will come into play [for the fall fight] - and then the winner would have to face the number one [ranked fighter under] the WBA, which could happen before the end of the year. I want Golovkin to fight three times this year. For me, I think it's best to have four [fights], but he will not be able to because of the Canelo fight."

Sanchez once again made it clear that his boxer will not face Canelo at a catch-weight of 155-pounds. Canelo has weighed 155 for his last four bouts, including his title win over Miguel Cotto last November, and he plans to weigh 155 when he faces Amir Khan on May 7th in Las Vegas. Because Golovkin is the mandatory challenger, he refuses to meet him at a catch-weight.

"No [we are not going to fight him at a catch-weight]. The World Boxing Council has its rules which have been around for many years, and the weight for that division is 160-pounds. Other Mexican fighters who fought for that championship, they didn't do it at a catch-weight. It's a mandatory world championship fight, and it has to be at 160 pounds or less. If Canelo wants to come in at 155, that is his choice," Sanchez said. "To force him down to a certain weight, that's unacceptable. "
