Harvey Hadden Sports Village, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom - Sam Bowen cruised to a knockout victory against Juan Luis Gonzalez, stopping the Spaniard with 55 seconds remaining in round 4, and claiming the International Super Featherweight Challenge Belt.

The win extends the Bullet’s unbeaten record to ten, and the 24-year-old will now be looking ahead to June, where he will take on Michael Devine for the vacant English title.

Bowen hurt his opponent early on with sharp body shots, and held control during the opening encounters. It was the third round that proved devastating for 37-year-old veteran Gonzalez, as he crumpled under the velocity of Bowen’s looping hooks. He went down with thirty seconds remaining, yet managed to hold his composure until the bell.

It was the success from the first few rounds that set the platform for the Bullet’s knockdown. He attacked low and wide to the left of the body with monumental triumph as Gonzalez crumpled onto one knee, only just making the count in the fourth.

But moments later, Bowen doubled up with the exact same shot to inflict his seventh knockout of his career.

The performance was classy and sophisticated from Bowen, who was supported by a huge turnout at the Harvey Hadden Stadium.

Elsewhere on the card, Jamie Williams lost out to Conar Blackshaw in the final bout of the evening on a narrow points decision.

Williams, entering the fight following a strong victory over Usman Ahmed, found himself pinned to the ropes in the first pair of rounds, fighting from the back foot which allowed Blackshaw the opportunity to build an early lead on the scorecards.

The 23-year-old flyweight came out of the blocks firing, throwing far more punches and creating ferocious combinations that Williams, initially, looked unprepared for.

In the third, Jamie looked stunned following a crisp left hand to the head, which seemed to spur the Nottingham lad into action, as he began to jab and counter to good effective.

Despite clear fatigue in the final rounds, and with Williams growing as the fight wore on, Conar held firm and never looked flustered.

The victory now means Conar should have an English title shot against 25-year-old Ryan Doyle.

Also fighting on the Carl Greaves card was Nottingham’s Dale Miles who emerged from a bruising 6-round encounter to beat Lithuanian Edvinas Puplauskas, with the judges scoring the bout 58-53 in Miles’s favour.

Miles had been expected to add yet another knockout to his record, but Puplauskas came with serious attacking intent, and sent Miles to the canvas in the first round. Dale responded with a knockdown of his own in the fourth, but both fighters held firm until the final bell in what was a close encounter.

Welterweight Nathan McIntosh added a twelfth victory to his record, beating Norwich’s Duane Green on a points decision. Also in action was Terry Maughan, who lost out to a powerful and determined Kevin McCauley after four rounds, handing McCauley his 13th win of his career, whilst Maughan has now slipped to two consecutive losses.
