Martha Salazar and Tanzee Daniel will fight Nov. 8 in San Francisco for the vacant WBC women’s heavyweight title, Salazar’s promoter informed BoxingScene.com on Thursday.

“This is something she has worked for and we thank Tanzee Daniel for stepping up and fighting Martha,” said Blanca Gutierrez, who also trains Salazar. “We also want to thank OPP Boxing and Mo Better Entertainment for believing in Martha Salazar and putting this incredible fight on their card.”

Ironically enough, Salazar (12-4, 3 KOs) was a participant in the last fight involving the belt, when she dropped a majority decision to Vonda Ward in 2007. However, Ward never defended the strap, and after her retirement, the sanctioning body never put the title back on the line with the dearth of quality female pro heavyweights.

Now the 44-year-old Salazar, who had come back from a six-year hiatus last year to outpoint top heavyweight Sonya Lamonakis, will have an opportunity to capture championship gold in front of her hometown fans at the Longshoremen’s Hall in Fisherman’s Wharf. The bout is slated to take place on the undercard of fellow San Franciscan Karim Mayfield’s return to the ring against Michael Balasi.

Daniel (4-3-1, 1 KO), from New York, is currently rated No. 6 by the WBC. The 38-year-old Queens resident started her career 4-0 but has lost three of her last four, with all three defeats coming at the hands of Lamonakis by decision.
