Skye Nicolson will travel to Mexico in her quest to land a major title shot.

The 2020 Australian Olympian will challenge interim WBC featherweight titlist Sabrina Maribel Perez. The scheduled ten-round fight comes in supporting capacity to the Angel Fierro-Brayan Zamarripa lightweight main event atop Matchroom Boxing’s September 15 DAZN show in Tijuana, Mexico.

“September 15th I am challenging for the WBC interim world title,” Nicolson confirmed through her verified social media channels. “One step closer to the big fights I know I am ready for. I can’t wait to be back on the world stage- this time in Mexico. AND THE NEW… 8-0  Let’s go!”

Nicolson (7-0, 0KOs) has fought three times each in the U.S. and the U.K. and once in her native Australia over the course of a pro career which began just last March in San Diego, California. She has since emerged as the WBC mandatory challenger to undisputed featherweight queen and record-setting seven-division titlist Amanda Serrano.

The number-one ranking was earned in a ten-round win over unbeaten Tania Alvarez on February 4 in New York City. The bout was fittingly part of a DAZN show that was headlined by Serrano’s thrilling win over Erika Cruz to fully unify all the strawweight titles.

Cruz (15-2, 3KOs)—who held the WBA belt heading into that night—also appears on the September 15 show in a scheduled ten-round contest versus Melissa Odessa Parker (6-1, 2KOs).

Argentina’s Perez (18-1-1, 2KOs) attempts the first defense of the interim WBC title she claimed in a ten-round virtual shutout of Colombia’s Yolis Marrugo Franco last March 19 in her Isidro Casanova hometown.

Also announced as part of the show is a terrific  matchup between Tijuana’s own Kevin Barron Crespo (12-0, 9KOs) and San Diego’s Christian Olivo (20-1-1, 7KOs) in a scheduled ten-round featherweight contest.
