2 Rounds Promotion in Belgium has managed to find an opponent for WBA regular cruiserweight champion Ryad Merhy (29-1-1) for his defense on July 17 in Brussels and it will be Chinese contender Zhaoxin Zhang, 10-1-1, and ranked # 14 by the WBA.

Zhang replaces IBO king Kevin Lerena, who had to pull out due to a serious hand injury.

Also added to the bill is former WBA cruiser champ Youri Kalenga (26-6).

Light heavies Timo Laine (28-15-0-1) and Aku Kanninen (7-0-1) square off for the vacant Finnish title tomorrow (July 3) on Oulu, Finland.

The by now 37-year old Laine, who doubles as a model, was last seen being outboxed by Lerrone Richards in the UK. Laine has been in a lot of tough fights on the road over the years - and another tough evening awaits in Oulu against the promising local hero.

....

Czech heavyweight Radek Varak (8-8) is out as the opponent for Pezhman Seifkhani (11-0 in real life,10-0 if you go by boxrec) on the Fight Life Promotion in Orebro, Sweden, July 10. Bulgarian MIlen Paunov (5-7 boxrec, 8-7 in real life) is on as substitute.

However, according to the Swedish Martial Law every fight over 12 minutes duration needs to be approved by the Martial Arts Delegation. They approved of Seifkhani vs Varak and are now looking into Seifkhani vs Paunov, all financed by the taxpayers.

The confusion on records and what is recognized by "boxing's official recordkeeper" - and what is approved by national Federations - doesn't help the case either. With regards to Paunov, he won the Bigger is Better Tournament back in 2014. And as for Pezhman, he won a fight in Latvia in 2016 that for reasons unknown it was never recognized by boxrec.
