Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. has confirmed that there have been discussions for a potential exhibition fight with Tommy Fury.

In a recent interview, father and trainer John Fury revealed that he spoke with Jones during a recent trip to Saudi Arabia - about the possibility of facing Tommy Fury in the ring.

Fury has had a very lucrative 2023. The unbeaten 10-0 fighter was paid millions for crossover boxing matches.

In February, he handed Jake Paul his first career defeat with an eight round split decision win. He returned to the ring last month to secure a six round unanimous decision over KSI, who also suffered his first career defeat.

Jones, 54-years-old, was in action back in April, when he lost an eight round majority decision to MMA veteran Anthony Pettis, who was making his pro debut.

While some wondered if John Fury was kidding around when pondering a Tommy Fury vs. Jones showdown, the former champion explained that discussions have indeed taken place and he's interested.

"There is truth to that, we spoke in Saudi Arabia because of the fact that John Fury was with Tyson. Me and Fury family, we have a lot of history. I was one of the people who told Tyson five or six years back that he could come back and beat all of them and that’s what he has done," Jones said to Betway.

"To be in the ring with somebody from the social media era and have a big fight with Tommy Fury, I may not be who I was but to be in with against someone from the YouTube era, it’s a different type of thing and can captivate the audience. I think it’s a good thing.

"The fight would have to happen early next year. He’s definitely a legitimate fighter, he’s not a bad fighter at all and he comes from a family of fighters. Sometimes he doesn’t take fighters as seriously as he should. It’s like Tyson, he didn’t take Francis Ngannou as seriously as he should but when he is fighting someone like Oleksandr Usyk it’ll be different.

"Sometimes people play to the level of their opposition and if you fight people who aren’t going to do anything and you are expected to win, you’re probably not going to do much but when you fight somebody that you know can do a whole lot then you have to be on you’re a game.

"I’ll be 55 years old if we fight. It would be a very interesting fight for both of us because of my age. My mind can still do it, but body isn’t able to, so I’ll have to figure it out and be smarter. I think the fight could (do bigger numbers than against Mike Tyson) because he has the social media following. I think a Jake Paul fight is also possible."
