A new main event tops the July 17 edition of Boxeo Telemundo, which kicks off the series’ summer season. Headlining the show at the Kissimmee (FL) Civic Center, junior middleweight prospect Daniel Rosario will face Mexico’s Aaron Garcia in a 10-round regional title fight.

“We’re really excited to start the summer season with another classic matchup in the longtime Puerto Rico vs. Mexico boxing rivalry,” notes promoter Felix ‘Tutico’ Zabala Jr. of the showcase fight of the night. “We had a very strong spring season, building on our incredible run in 2014 and look to only get better in the weeks ahead.”

Rosario (10-1, 9KOs) has emerged as a series favorite, although his debut was anything but memorable. The rising prospect saw his unbeaten record snatched in an upset loss to Edgar Ortega in Aug. ’13 on the road in Mexico. He has since rebounded with Telemundo-televised knockout wins over Jose Leal and Alphonso Black.

The July 17 headliner will serve as the third straight fight in Florida for Rosario, who hails from Caguas, Puerto Rico. Rosario trains with Evangelista Cotto, uncle and former trainer of Caguas’ best-known athlete, reigning World middleweight king Miguel Cotto.

Garcia (14-3-1, 10KOs) comes in riding a nine-fight win streak, although largely comprised of inexperienced opposition. The showdown with Rosario will mark his first career bout outside of Mexico.
