Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California - For the vacant WBA gold super bantamweight title, Ronny Rios (31-3, 15 KOs) is back in the mix in full force, with a sixth round knockout of previously undefeated Diego De La Hoya (21-1, 10 KOs).

De La Hoya has had issues with his weight in recent years. He had to give up meat for this training camp and only ate fish.

In his last fight, back in April, the contest ended with a two round no-contest after a clash of heads opened up a serious cut on the forehead of his opponent Enrique Bernache.

Rios picked up a TKO win over Daniel Olea in April, which helped him get back on track after suffering a knockout loss at the hands of Azat Hovhannisyan in March of last year. Rios' first career defeat was a twelve round decision loss to WBC world champion Rey Vargas.

The first was close as the two boxers were feeling each other out.

In the second, they began to get more active with a lot of punches being exchanged on the inside. Rios was landing some telling punches, which forced De La Hoya to come back strong with hard shots of his own.

They continued to trade hard leather in the third, in a tough, close round. There was no give by either boxer in the fourth, with an inside war between the two boxers.

The final minute of the fifth was pure fireworks, as they stood toe to toe and exchanged very hard punches - with Rios landing the better punches.

In the sixth, a combination to the head and body sent De La Hoya down to the mat. He beat the count, but still appeared to be in trouble and the fight was waved off by the referee.

After the fight, the referee stated that De La Hoya had told him that he did not want to continue.
