Ronald Ellis (12-0) is looking to make a statement on Friday night when he enters the ring against Jerry Odom at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The fight will be televised as part of a ShoBox tripleheader.

"Training camp has been one of the real good ones. I can't complain about nothing. Weight is doing good. Sparring has been great. I can't complain about anything and I'm looking forward to a good fight," said Ellis who said that he is looking for this fight to be the launching point of his career.

"Truthfully I was like, 'it's about time. I gotta show them what I am made of.' I was happy (to find out he was on ShoBox). I'm not too anxious and stuff but I was like I am ready so let's do this. It's time to show people what I've been talking about all these years."

The 26-year-old Ellis has been inactive since stopping Jas Phipps in two rounds in August on the Shane Mosley-Ricardo Mayorga II undercard.

He knows that he needs to be more active in the future and believes that an impressive performance will lead to more television appearances.

"From there I hope I open a lot of eyes and I start fighting regularly and never have another layoff like this again. That's what I am looking forward to. I want to take care of business and stay busy and keep on rolling," Ellis explained.

In addition to being a student of the game, Ellis is a fan of the sport.  There are some big fights on the horizon in his division and the Massachusetts resident plans on watching them closely.

"I think the Badou Jack-Chavez Jr. fight is going to be a good fight. The Abraham-Ramirez fight is also going to be a good fight. I don't really try to dwell on it too much because like you said I am right around the corner of getting those type of fights.

"When I watch any fight I scout and matchup and see what their weaknesses are but especially in my division - like you said, now that you brought it up - I am going to start looking at these guys a little bit more," revealed Ellis.

Former 168 pound kingpin Andre Ward makes his debut at the 175 pound light heavyweight limit on March 26th when he faces Sullivan Barrera in a HBO televised fight.  His departure leaves the super middleweight division wide open.

Ellis plans on trying to take advantage of that opening.

"With him moving to 75 that leaves a gap here. I love Ward's style. He boxes and switches like I do. He just needs to be a little more active like myself. I think moving up will be no problem for him. I think he fought in the amateurs at 178. He's a big guy. He's got a long reach and can box and he's super smart so I think he can fight at any class," Ellis told BoxingScene.com.
