Former 115 lb. titlist Rodrigo Guerrero scored his second straight win at bantamweight, battering previously unbeaten Takahiro Shigee into submission, seconds into the ninth round of their headliner Saturday evening in Centro de Espectaculos in Epazoyucan, Mexico.

The skills and pressure of Guerrero proved to be too much for Shigee, who was fighting outside of his native Japan. Frustration set in for Shigee early on, losing a point in round five for a low blow and also causing a cut around Guerrero's eye as the result of a headbutt.

Guerrero took the blows in stride, dialing up the action and power in the middle rounds. The attack proved to be too much for Shigee, who refused to come out for the start of round nine.

The official time was 0:03 of round nine.

Guerrero improves to 21-5-1 (14KOs) with his second impressive showing at bantamweight. The former 115 lb. titlist tested the bantamweight waters earlier this year, scoring a 10-round decision over Daniel Rosas. With the win on Saturday, Guerrero will now make a move towards a bantamweight title.

Shigee suffers his first loss in addition to debuting on the road, as he falls to 11-1-1 (9KOs).

The bout aired live on Fox Deportes in the U.S. and on Televisa in Mexico.
