In front of an enthusiastic audience, local favorite Rod Salka headlined an entertaining night of boxing promoted by Michael Acri Promotions at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field VIP Tent. “Summer Brawls” drew over 700 fans, the most recognizable being former world lightweight champion Paul Spadafora who was at ringside for the proceedings.

In the main event, Salka, (12-0, 3KOs)boxing well for 8 rounds against the determined Harold Ikem Orji, (6-3, 2KOs). Salka remained undefeated by scores of 77-75, 77-75, and 80-72 in a highly competitive lightweight bout.

In a minor upset, Indianna’s David Martin (3-0, 3KOs) stopped Paul Zalus (4-1, 4KOs) at 1:59 of the first round in a heavyweight 4-rounder. Fighting in front of a hometown audience, Zalus got caught with a clean left hook early and Martin, seeing his opportunity, poured on a barrage of punches prompting the referee to call a halt to the bout. 

Jake Giuriceo (7-0-1, 2KOs) won a very exciting 6-round decision over Sam Gipson (2-5) by scores of 58-56 X 3 in the most competitive fight of the night.

Heavyweight Jason Bergman (12-9-2, 9KOs) stopped Ryan Thompson (9-10, 6KOs) in the third round of a scheduled 6 rounder.

Chris Hazimihalis (3-0, 3KOs) TKO’d Ryan Strickland (1-3, 1KO)in the first round in the evening’s opening bout.
