This past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather Jr. matched the 60-year-old record of heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano.

Mayweather raised his record to 49-0 by winning an easy twelve round unanimous decision over Andre Berto.

Rocky Marciano Jr. would have preferred to see a heavyweight match the record instead of a welterweight. He feels it's much tougher for someone to go 49-0 at heavyweight, because of the sheer size of the boxers and many of them having the ability to end a fight with one punch.

“I suppose I would be more impressed,” Marciano Jr. stated to USA Today. “I think my father’s record is a difficult record to achieve in the heavyweight class. In boxing history we’ve seen (boxers in) lighter weight classes go deep before losses. The weight matters in my opinion and also in others’ opinions.”

His father set the 49-0 record in September 22 of 1955, by knocking out Archie Moore in the final fight of his career. He told the paper that it's hard to believe Mayweather's vow of retirement. Just about everyone is already predicting a Mayweather return in 2016 - for the purpose of breaking Marciano's record, or at least trying to, with a 50th fight.

“Waiting to see if Mayweather sticks to his word or goes for 50 before retiring,” Marciano Jr. said. “… It’s difficult to believe this is his last fight.”
