Alexis Rocha defeated Frederick Lawson in the co-main event of the Ramírez-Goulamirian DAZN card at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California. Lawson’s corner stopped the fight after a one-sided seventh round in favor of Rocha (24-2, 16 KOs).

Lawson (30-5, 22 KOs) was last seen in the ring during a first-round technical knockout loss to Vergil Ortiz, Jr., which referee Tony Weeks controversially stopped in the first round. A post alleged to be associated with Weeks on Facebook - now deleted, alleged that brain scans before the fight had revealed an aneurism in Lawson’s brain. The Nevada State Athletic Commission cleared Lawson to fight.

Rocha marched forward continuously, looking to set up and land hard left hands. One such blow sent Lawson into the ropes, where he covered up as Rocha flurried — a common pattern throughout the fight that repeated itself in nearly every round.

Lawson’s primary asset was his jab, but he landed very few power shots of note outside a good right hand in the third round. A DAZN graphic in the sixth round showed that Rocha was out landing Lawson at nearly a three-to-one clip. By fight’s end, Rocha landed 148 punches to Lawson’s 33 despite Rocha throwing just 41 more punches.

In round six, a fierce Rocha straight left buckled Lawson into the ropes for an official knockdown, the ropes having held him up. Lawson did well to survive the ensuing onslaught, but the referee was millimeters away from stopping the fight in the seventh amidst another Rocha assault. Lawson escaped the round, then his corner did what the referee couldn’t.
