Robson Conceicao had a far easier outing than was the case in his previous fight.

Whether or not it does anything to advance his middling career is for another discussion.

For now, the three-time Olympian and 2016 Olympic Gold medalist from Brazil remains perfect as a pro following a 7th round knockout of Mexico’s Jesus Ahumada. Conceicao dished out a systematic beating of Ahumada en route to dropping Ahumada in forcing the stoppage at 1:20 of round seven Saturday on ESPN+ from Osage Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Conceicao was coming off of a struggling 10-round decision win over Luis Coria last Halloween in a fight which easily could have went the other way. The only-ever Brazilian to win Olympic Gold decided to leave nothing to chance in this fight, finding an inviting target in Ahumada who was game but severely outgunned and with a corner who failed to act in his best interest.

A stream of right hands found their way to Ahumada’s chin in the opening round, along with a few behind the head. Conceicao kept it clean the rest of the way, the evidence showing on his opponent’s face, which was eventually reduced to a bloody mess.

Ahumada did his best to turn things around midway through the contest, charging forward and daring Conceicao to turn the boxing match into a brawl. Conceicao remained in his envelope, fighting through controlled aggression and shaking off a right hand to the chin to land several more in return.

Referee Gary Ritter called for the ringside physician to visit the corner of Ahumada (17-4, 11KOs) following the end of round six, out of concern that his health was at risk. Conceicao intensified his attack in round seven, landing several more right hands before a left hook floored Ahumada for the bout’s lone knockdown. The referee reached the count of nine before deciding Ahumada was done for the night.

Conceicao advances to 16-0 (8KOs) with the win, though with calls to begin facing competition befitting an established amateur and Olympic Gold medalist.

The bout served in supporting capacity to a seven-fight preliminary undercard on ESPN+. The ESPN+ undercard precedes an ESPN telecast, headlined by the vacant WBO light heavyweight title fight between Joe Smith Jr. (26-3, 21KOs) and Maxim Vlasov (45-3, 26KOs).
