Gervonta Davis could have opted to head straight into a showdown against longtime rival Ryan Garcia. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old believed that it was sagacious to sharpen up his skills before sauntering into their mega matchup.

This past weekend, at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., the Baltimore native punished Hector Luis Garcia, relieving him of his pugilistic duties via ninth-round stoppage. But before Davis forced the Dominican to remain on his stool to begin the ninth, the former Olympian enjoyed plenty of success throughout.

At times, Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) appeared flummoxed. In the early goings, Garcia, who moved up from 130 pounds to challenge Davis for his secondary lightweight trinket, stood his ground in the center of the ring as he avoided the hard-hitting stars bombs while landing several eye-catching shots of his own.

Like most of the boxing world, Robert Garcia was glued to his television screen as the two battled it out in front of a jam-packed crowd. The end result, as previously stated, left Davis smiling from ear to ear.

Now, with Hector behind him, Davis will look to permanently close the mouth of Ryan Garcia. While unofficial, the two are slated to square off on April 15th.

Since bursting onto the scene and running through his competition, Robert has always revered Davis and his ability to end a fight in the blink of an eye. However, the renowned trainer saw a few alarming trends, several of which he believes Ryan will go on to capitalize on.

“Hector landed some punches on Tank but I don’t think he has the power,” said Robert Garcia to 210Boxing Tv. “I think Ryan has the f------ power. I think if Ryan lands, he will hurt Tank.”

Ryan, 24, has stated on countless occasions that he has no intentions of sitting back and engaging Davis in a boxing match. Instead, the loquacious contender claims that he’ll march ahead and put Davis out of his misery in no more than two rounds.

Davis though, has yawned while rolling his eyes at what he believes are nothing more than empty threats. Robert, on the other hand, is going against the grain. Although Davis figures to be the odds-on favorite heading in, considering the overall skill set of Ryan, Robert is willing to roll the dice and go with the underdog.

“I pick Garcia. He’s too fast and too strong.”
