Robbie Davies Jr. has taken to social media to issue an update on his condition.

The Liverpool super-lightweight was stopped after suffering a nasty-looking ankle injury on Saturday night.

Davies Jr. was fighting in front of his hometown crowd, at the M&S Bank Arena on Merseyside, against Australian-based Darragh Foley.

The former Commonwealth and WBA Continental champion at the weight was knocked down in the second round by the Irishman and fell awkwardly on his right side, exclusively live on DAZN.

But Shane McGuigan threw in the towel in the third after the 33-year-old’s compromised leg gave way as he went to step back on it. The ankle twisted underneath the weight of his body and the clash was halted immediately.

Davies Jr., who was originally set to meet Australia’s highly-rated WBA-ranked Liam Paro before he withdrew through injury three weeks out, revealed that he will need surgery on the injury.

“Thank you for all the messages and well wishes,” he said in a statement on his Twitter account on Sunday. “I left Aintree Hospital [in the] early hours [of] this morning with a cast on my leg.

“A second opinion on my x-ray this morning has got me back to the hospital now where I will undergo an operation.”

Davies Jr., in defeat, slips to 23-4 with 15 quick finishes and will endeavour to begin the long road back to the ring sooner rather than later.

“[It was] rotten luck with a freak accident,” he added, “[and] I will update everyone in due course.”
