Noted trainer Freddie Roach was a busy man this past weekend as he worked two corners at the T-Mobile Arena on the Saul Alvarez-Amir Khan HBO pay-per-view undercard from Las Vegas.

His undefeated welterweight Frankie Gomez (21-0, 13KOs) won all ten rounds against veteran Mauricio Herrera.

"He fought a very good fight, he fought a veteran, he won every round and pitched a shutout and nobody really does that with him. Herrera's a real tough guy, I thought it was a good win."

Roach maintains that Gomez will eventually make his way down to junior welterweight,"Yes, he will go to 140 and I'd like that first title to be at 140."

On the flipside, Glen Tapia (23-3, 15KOs), who last year was stopped by Michel Soro, was halted in four by the heavy-handed former IBF champion David Lemieux. This is his third stoppage defeat. On this particular night Tapia, who moved up to middleweight, simply couldn't get off and looked sluggish throughout the fight. After being sent to the canvas in the fourth round the corner waved off the fight much to the surprise and disappointment of 'the Jersey Boy.

In many ways was it a signal that Tapia should find a new line of work and save himself further damage?

"I think so,"confirmed Roach on Sunday morning. "The thing is he looks good in the gym but it doesn't carry over into the fight. I think he might be all done."
