From all indications, Manny Pacquiao is set to fight one more time later this year and most likely in Macau, China. While the location may be set, the question on who will be standing across the ring from him on fight night still remains as its unknown if Juan Manuel Marquez will agree to fight Pacquiao a fifth time.

Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum had said the winners of the Pacquiao-Bradley rematch and the Marquez-Alvarado fight would face off in the fall in a mega fight. While Pacquiao has said he welcomes adding a fifth chapter to their already legendary rivalry, Marquez has been more hesitant and unsure if he wants to fight Pacquiao again or keep his knockout victory over him intact.

BoxingScene caught up with Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach and asked if he thought a fifth fight with Marquez is what he wanted.

“That’s something I would like. I thought Marquez looked good in the [Alvarado] fight. He fought well. He looked a lot stronger than he did in his last fight but I don’t hear any negotiations going on about that fight. They’re asking me about other opponents right now. They asked me who I’d want to fight next and I said well, I’d like to fight Danny Garcia. I think that’d be a great fight for Pacquiao. So they’re throwing that at me. I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen but I think his next fight will be in China but opponent wise, we haven’t locked anyone down yet” Roach would tell BoxingScene.

A fight with undefeated Junior Welterweight champion Danny Garcia would require for Top Rank and Garcia’s promoter Golden Boy to work together for the first time in  years after their now infamous “Cold War”.

There has however been a thawing in the promotional feud as Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya has extended an olive branch to Bob Arum and both have been very positive about being able to work together again. Given that Roach would like a fight with Pacquiao and Garcia, he was asked for his thoughts regarding the promotional feud looking to maybe finally coming to an end.

“It would bring back boxing to the best sport in the world. It’s what we need and all this feud in between is all bullsh*t. Just negotiate the deal, I don’t care. I’ll make a deal with the devil if I have to. A good deal is a good deal. That’s my outlook. Personalities shouldn’t get involved in negotiations” said Roach.

A Marquez fight is definitely something Roach would want again but he’s also looking at other possibilities and the one he wants the most – Danny Garcia -  is part of an untapped talent pool that Pacquiao has not been able to swim in due to the promotional feuds. A Pacquiao-Garcia fight sounds great but there are still many hurdles that would need to be cleared in order for that fight to happen.
