Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas - Brandon Rios won a welterweight bout when Diego Chaves was disqualified in the ninth round. Chaves had points deducted in the fifth and eight rounds for holding, wrestling and pushing his glove into Rios’ face. Rios also lost a point for throwing Chaves down. Despite losing the points, Chaves was ahead on two cards and Rios ahead on the third when the bout ended. Referee Vic Drakulich ran out of patience halfway through the ninth and gave the fight to Rios, whose record improved to 32-2-1, including 23 knockouts. Chaves now stands at 23-2, 19.

BoxingScene reported that Rios went to the hospital after the match, complaining of dizziness and that his left eye was injured.

"He kept punching and he kept poking me in the eye. That's not right. This is not the way I want to win. I don't know if I would win or not. But I didn't want the fight to end this way. If you want to fight, fight, but don't fight dirty. I tried to go in on him but I had to be careful.  I didn't want to get a head butt. Every time I get in he grabbed me and put his fingers in my eyes.  He did it more than one time - he did it a couple of times," Rios said.

"I'm happy with the way I fought in the beginning but I'm not happy with the way it went. He's a dirty fighter. I will go back to the gym and get more work in then talk to Robert and Cameron and see where we want to go next."
