Trainer Jorge Rubio is still looking for answers after getting fired by WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, who hired Cuban coach Pedro Diaz to train him for the biggest fight of his career, a unification with WBO champion Nonito Donaire on April 13th in New York City. Rubio says he was never given an exact reason for the pink slip and still has no idea what went wrong. Rubio has tried to contract Rigondeaux several times to get an explanation, but the fighter has yet to respond.

"I have nothing against Rigo and I wish him well, but I'm still waiting for an explanation for what happened. People out there say and invent things that are not true, but the rumors hurt and the question remains on why he left me to go with Pedro. It's not fair. Actually there was no technical problems and much less there were no personal issues. I still do not understand what happened," Rubio told George Ebro.

"What bothers me is that Rigo and I had an open channel of communication, or so I thought, and I do not think he was completely honest with me. If he was pressured not to work with me, I should have been told. If it was by his own free will, I equally deserved an explanation. At this point, he is not being professional.''

Rigondeaux's co-promoter says there is nothing personal and his boxer was only looking to make a change in his corner. Rigondeaux has gone through several trainers over the years, including Ismael Salas and Freddie Roach.

Boris Arencibia, President of Caribe Promotions, said - "It is very common for a boxer to make a technical change from time to time to get different results. Rubio's efforts are appreciated, but we felt that it was time to move in another direction in that area of the corner.''
