Guillermo Rigondeaux's compass seems to take him on a new course but to another Filipino rival.

The Cuban leaves this Monday to face Vincent “Acero” Astrolabio in his return to the ring on February 26 in Dubai, as part of a series of boxing cards in the United Arab Emirates.

Rigondeaux has a big history with Filipino opponents. He had his best moment when he beat an immense Nonito Donaire in 2013 and a few months ago he fell by split decision against John Riel Casimero, but during that fight he made the dangerous Filipino look very bad, who at some point had to vomit in his corner due to fatigue.

Rigondeaux is training under the wings of Pedro Diaz, the head of Mundo Boxing.

He will now try to write a new chapter in his career, when everything seemed over.

“We are doing things as well as possible in the gym and I want to enter 2022 at one hundred percent, because I feel that there are still things to do in the ring," Rigondeaux told George Ebro.

“We are starting [off the year]. I think that everything will turn out well and we are one hundred percent. You know that I am always well prepared, I always keep training in the gym... that has been my second home. You know that I have always fought internationally and maybe I even fight better [in those positions]. I was already [in Dubai] for about 10 days. I see a lot of boxers, even Cubans there. Boxing is gaining a lot of strength in that region.

“Let no one forget El Jackal, let them remember me as I am. I will give my best. They gave [Casimero] a little Christmas present. He knows and ask him if he wants to fight me again. I'm sure he will tell you no. I left him throwing up like a bitch. As for me, I will always be well prepared. You will never find me tired. That will never happen. [I want people to] believe in me that I have always been a winner. In February the fire and the candle will return."
