According to WBO interim-lightweight champion Ricky Burns (33-02, 9KOs), a gang of thugs tried to ambush him during a morning run. Burns was out jogging in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire and he was confronted with verbal abuse by a group of youths, who chased the fighter while throwing bottles and other objects. Burns called the police, who arrived too late to catch any of attackers. Burns returns to action on March 10th at Braehead Arena in Glasgow.

"Out jogging and a group decide to shout abuse at you, chuck stuff and chase you. You phone the police and report it and they just drive by ten minutes later. It's a joke. What's Coatbridge coming to?," Burns said.
