MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Following his twelfth round TKO loss to Miguel Cotto, former two division champion Ricardo Mayorga, 38-years-old, announced that he would retire from boxing. Mayorga was stopped in the twelfth round after suffering a thumb injury on his left hand. He told the referee the thumb injury was preventing him from making a fist. Prior to the thumb injury, Mayorga was dropped by a counter hook.

"I'm going to retire. I think I need to look for a job. I said at the start of this promotion that I would retire from boxing if I lost, and I think it's time to retire. I'm not happy with my performance. As a man, I'm not happy. Miguel Cotto, he hits very hard, but that doesn't scare me," Mayorga said.
