The talented brothers, René and Félix Alvarado, continued their rise in the professional boxing ranks with their recent wins in Nicaragua, over Imer Velasquez and Pedro Blandon, respectively, at an event that was held at the Alexis Argüello Gym in Managua.

René, a super bantamweight, took part in the headliner against Velázquez. He was heading to an easy win but had some trouble with the left-handed style of Velázquez. There were a few rounds where Rene allowed Velazquez to get off with too many punches. In the fourth round, a few head clashes opened up a cut below the left eye of Alvarado.

At the end of the fight, which was scheduled for six rounds, Rene got the nod on all three scorecards with tallies of 58-56, 59-57 and 59-56. Some fans were unhappy with the scores, as Alvarado won the crowd with his brave effort. René improves to 11-0, with 6 knockouts, while Velazquez falls to 3-3-3.

In the co-feature, junior flyweight Félix Alvarado had no trouble in putting away his Pedro Blandon in two rounds of action. Felix dropped him twice in the first round and three more times in the second to seal the deal. Felix improved his record to 8-0 with 8 knockouts, and is viewed as one of the best boxing prospects in Nicaragua.

Also on the card, super bantamweight prospect Jimmy Aburto (5-0) had no trouble with a 49 second first round blowout of Harvin Blandon. He got off with a powerful right hand that crashed into the chin of his opponent for the knockout.
