Devin Haney knew he was pushing his luck. For the newly turned 25-year-old, it felt as though his body was growing with each passing day. It seemed both logical and obvious that a move up in weight was his next step. However, Haney refused to do so before accomplishing his goals.

Following back-to-back wins over George Kambosos Jr. to become an undisputed champion, Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) placed the finishing touches on his lightweight cake with a win against Vasiliy Lomachenko.

With nothing left to prove at that point, Haney opted to move up. Considering his name, he could’ve chosen to make his 140-pound debut against anyone. But, there was something about a fight with Regis Prograis that Haney liked.

The 34-year-old didn’t complain, but he has felt disrespected by Team Haney for choosing him. Although Prograis could’ve spent the last few months attempting to figure out why Haney picked him, he shrugged it off and began putting in the work.

Now, after taking part in a grueling training camp, Prograis believes that Haney made the biggest mistake of his young career.

“There’s no way Haney not going to sleep,” said Prograis recently on a self-recorded video.

Haney isn’t moved by Prograis’ threats. He simply stares at him stoically as he plans on making him miss and simultaneously, making him pay.

Boxing is the name of the game for Haney. He’s never been a fan of fighters that get into all-out brawls. In short, skills pay the bills, and he plans on using every skill available to him this Saturday night at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Prograis, from a distance, has watched Haney. You can even say he’s studied him. He knows that Haney will do his best to stay away from his pernicious left hand and remain on the outside. But while that rinse-and-repeat game plan has worked on 30 previous occasions, Prograis is convinced that it won’t help him in the slightest on December 9th.

“There’s no f------ way I’m not sleeping Haney.”
