Pedro Campa defiantly looked into the eyes of Teo Lopez, as their showdown drew near. Despite being deemed a sizable underdog heading in, Campa hung tough with Lopez during their ESPN main event on August 13th.

Prior to facing off against the longtime journeymen, Lopez confidently predicted an early night at the office. Although it took him longer than he originally expected, Lopez eventually found his rhythm in the second half of the fight, scoring a seventh-round stoppage victory.

As the newly turned contender began roaring and beating his chest, Regis Prograis stood stoically in his palatial estate. Simply put, though Lopez is convinced that Campa was a worthy opponent, Prograis believes that he was tailor-made for the loquacious New Yorker.

“He did what he was supposed to do,” said Prograis during an interview with Thaboxingvoice. “I think he fought a confidence fight to get his confidence back.”

As Prograis alludes to, Lopez was attempting to put behind the nightmarish memories of his previous ring appearance. After scoring an unlikely upset against Vasiliy Lomachenko in October of 2020, Lopez found himself on the wrong end of the upset cart against George Kambosos Jr. roughly one year later.

Unwilling to squeeze down to the 135-pound weight limit any longer, Lopez (17-1, 13 KOs) has begun his new journey as a full-fledged super lightweight. Immediately following his victory over Campa, Lopez urged Top Rank, his current promotional company, to place him in the ring with some of the more notable names at 140-pounds.

Appreciative of Lopez’s ambitions, Prograis believes that he’s seen enough from him in just one fight to make his full assessment. The skills, in Prograis’s opinion, are ostensible. However, considering the success Campa enjoyed against the former champion, Prograis is convinced that Lopez will struggle mightily as he continues to move up the 140-pound ladder.

“That dude was hitting him and that dude is nowhere close to some of the bigger level 140s. I feel like the bigger people at 140, like real size, I know Teo, I been around him a bunch of times. Teo is kinda little. I could be wrong but I just don’t see it coming together at 140.”
