He isn’t quite banging on the door for a world title shot but Raymond Muratalla is getting closer and closer.

For the 26-year-old, his 2023 went picture-perfect. Three fights, three knockout wins. Now, he’s hoping that he’ll be rewarded with a title fight sooner, rather than later. The lightweight division is a bit of a mess at the moment.

The WBC title was recently won by Shakur Stevenson, Gervonta Davis is in sole possession of the WBA strap but the IBF and WBO belts are up for grabs. Unfortunately for Muratalla, he isn’t exactly in a position to land a shot at one of those vacant crowns or any of the current champions.

While he continues to play the waiting game, Keyshawn Davis is lurking in the background. The former Olympic silver medalist has the exact same goals and dreams as Muratalla (19-0, 16 KOs) and refuses to take no for an answer.

For the most part, Davis (9-0, 6 KOs) is viewed as a great young fighter with a terrific future. Muratalla, however, believes he’s good but in comparison to himself, it isn’t close.

“I don’t think he’s on my level yet,” Muratalla told Little Giant Boxing.

Considering that they're around the same age and reside in the same division, the pair are likely to meet at some point. Davis, with Jose Pedraza being his next opponent, is giving the former champ his undivided attention.

Muratalla, on the other hand, is looking around for someone who can truly challenge him. While Davis has been ballyhooed and praised with superlatives for years, Muratalla is convinced that if a matchup between them took place next, he would hand Davis an unforgettable beating.

“I don't think that’ll come anytime soon,” continued Muratalla. “But if it does happen, that would be an easy win for me.”
