Viewership for FOX’s boxing broadcast increased Sunday night from its previous telecast, despite the fact that the network aired those three bouts on a holiday weekend.

Nielsen Media Research reported Wednesday that “FOX PBC Fight Night” drew an average of 735,000 viewers Sunday night for a tripleheader that featured unbeaten junior middleweight contender Jesus Ramos in the main event. Viewership peaked at 915,000 during Ramos’ convincing victory over Brian Mendoza, who lost a 10-round unanimous decision at The Armory in Minneapolis.

An average of 874,000 viewers watched FOX’s main event between Ramos (17-0, 14 KOs), a 22-year-old southpaw from Casa Grande, Arizona, and Mendoza (19-2, 13 KOs), of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The average and peak audiences for the main event Sunday night, as well as the overall average viewership of the show, were higher than that of the prior “FOX PBC Fight Night” telecast.

That three-bout show, headlined by the no-contest between welterweights Eimantas Stanionis and Luis Collazo, averaged 673,000 viewers overall. An average of 823,000 viewers and a peak audience of 911,000 watched three-plus rounds of Stanionis and Collazo, before a cut on Collazo’s right eyelid caused an abrupt end to their scheduled 10-rounder August 7, also at The Armory.

FOX’s telecast Sunday night also included undefeated Dominican lightweight prospect Starling Castillo (16-0, 12 KOs), who out-pointed Mexican veteran Juan Carlos Burgos (34-6-2, 21 KOs) unanimously in the 10-round co-feature.

In the opener of FOX’s tripleheader, Marcos Hernandez upset unbeaten middleweight prospect Jose Armando Resendiz. Hernandez (15-4-2, 3 KOs), of Fresno, California, was 1-3-1 in his previous five fights, yet that didn’t stop him from out-boxing Mexico’s Resendiz (12-1, 8 KOs) and winning a 10-round unanimous decision.

Earlier Sunday night, an average of 158,000 viewers watched FS1’s telecast of Ramos-Mendoza undercard bouts. That portion of the Ramos-Mendoza show featured super middleweight veteran Kyron Davis (16-2-1, 6 KOs), who edged underdog Martez McGregor (8-5, 6 KOs) in an eight-round light heavyweight match.
