Several Mexican legends of the past discussed the current standing of country superstar, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Former world champions Humberto Gonzalez, Rafael Marquez and Israel Vazquez gave their takes on Canelo.

Canelo, who captured world titles in four weight divisions, will face Billy Joe Saunders on May 8th in a WBO, WBA, WBC super middleweight unification clash.

“He is the boss of boxing, there is nobody else. What happens is that sometimes people are not convinced by the fights he gives, but I know that there are currently no opponents for him to showcase himself as the warrior they want to see, but he is a great fighter," said 'Chiquita' Gonzalez to Jocelin Flores.

Canelo, regarded by many as the best pound for pound fighter on the planet, was criticized for his recent mismatch against Turkey's Avni Yildirim, whom he defeated by technical knockout after three rounds of one-sided action.

“At this moment Canelo Alvarez is very gifted for the weight. I think there are plenty of opponents out there and he can beat any of them and he's already showed that. He made Yildirim appear that he only came to cash a check, but hey, only the Turk knows why he showed that kind of performance," said Vazquez, a three-time super bantamweight world champion.

Canelo's goal for 2021 is to make history and become the first Mexican unified world champion at 168-pounds.

“Canelo is good, he's not what the critics say he is..... he prepares well, conscientiously, he has a great physical condition, mentally strong, but the fighters who can get him (inside the ring) may not be (good) or are afraid of him once they get in the ring," said Marquez, a world champion in two divisions.
