Scott Quigg has undergone successful surgery after suffering a broken jaw.

The former world champion, from Bury, was injured during his points defeat to Carl Frampton at the Manchester Arena on Saturday.

Quigg, who slipped to 31-1-2 (23 KOs) after losing the WBA Super super bantamweight title to the IBF kingpin from Belfast, was x-rayed immediately after their showdown, which was screened exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office, and underwent surgery on Sunday morning.

"He caught me with an uppercut and has broken my jaw so that put a bit of a spanner in the works," Quigg told Sky Sports News HQ after the fight.

And it was then a waiting game to find out how well the 27-year-old would fare after going under the knife.

He then tweeted, along with a picture of himself in a bed at a Manchester hospital, that he “will be back soon.”

“[I am] very sore, but [I’ve had] a very successful operation.

“I can’t thank [the fans] enough for all the support [that they have given me].”

Frampton, who is now 22-0 (14), took Quigg’s belt –– and the fight –– after receiving two scores of 116-112 from the judges, with the third scoring it 115-113 for Quigg.

And now the Matchroom-promoted man, who was signed after ‘The Jackal’ left the Brentwood-based stable three years ago, is clamouring for a rematch in a bid to claim his belt back once fully fit again.

“I just want the rematch if I can have the chance, because I really do think if I start quicker next time it will be a different story,” said Quigg.

“He came in [to my dressing room after the fight] and there is respect there. I respect him as a fighter, he respects me and the teams respect each other.

"We have both been in there in a great fight and I'm just hoping we can do it again because I know I have got the beating of him.”
