London - Colchester’s Southern Area Welterweight Champion Lee "Lights Out" Purdy will be at Wembley Arena on Saturday 19th February to defend his title against former British title challenger Michael “the Look” Lomax of Chingford.

The 10 round championship contest will form part of the exciting night of professional boxing which is being promoted by Hennessy Sports.

Purdy, who challenged in a close fought contest for the Commonwealth title last year, is hoping that by beating Prizefighter champion Michael Lomax it will push him up the ratings and into a position that will allow him to challenge for either an English title against champion Adnan Amar or a rematch with Denton Vassell for the commonwealth title.”

Lee said “Training is going very well but hard, Tony's had me running five days a week and then hitting the gym which consists of circuit training, strength work and sledge. Then I’m sparring John O’Donnell and John Rider over 10 or 12 rounds most days, but I know come the 19th I will be ready for anything that Lomax throws at me.”

“Michael got a lot of credibility for winning the Prizefighter, but over 10 rounds it’s a totally different ball game altogether, 3 rounds suited him because he could box and move but over 10 rounds he will definitely slow up and I’ll catch up with him and take him out.”

“It’s going to be a great feeling walking to the ring at such a great venue that everybody knows about, but the size doesn’t really bother me that much. I will be making sure that the belt is still around my waist when I leave the arena and hopefully will then get the chance to move on and fight for either an English or Commonwealth title later in the year.” said Purdy

This great night of Championship boxing at Wembley Arena will be headlined by two British title fights, the first title fight of the night will see Morden’s Lenny Daws looking to defend his British Light Welterweight title for a 3rd time and secure the Lonsdale belt outright when he squares up against Paddington’s Ashley Theophane.

The second British title up for grabs on the night will be for the welterweight crown, this will be contested between Shepherd’s Bush resident John O’Donnell and Craig Watson of Manchester.  These two last meet back in April 2009 and produced 12 rounds of exciting boxing in which O’Donnell was crowned the new Commonwealth champion.

To add spice to this already great event, Heavyweight Sensation Tyson Fury will be in a 10 round Special Attraction fight, opponent to be confirmed.

Joining these fighters at Wembley will be a host of talented young boxers including Haddenham’s Tornado Tyler Goodjohn, Islington’s John “Gorilla” Ryder, Phill Fury of Lancaster and brothers Chris and Andreas Evangelou of Enfield.
