The world awaits for the biggest boxing fight of this year, not named Mayweather vs. McGregor. It’s set to take place on September 16th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, when two best middleweights on the Earth – IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) of Kazakhstan and Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) – will collide for the 160lb championship and, arguably, pound-for-pound honours.

One to comment on the event is a fighter, who is as fierce in the ring as any of the aforementioned contestants albeit not as successful. Ex-WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (25-5, 18 KOs) shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight with his followers on Instagram.

Provodnikov was tabbing Golovkin to win this fight and he still feels the same after watching GGG's tough wins over Daniel Jacobs and Kell Brook.

“I think it’s a very exciting fight, one that the sport needs! Boxing superstar Canelo is among the best pound-for-pound fighters of the world, in my opinion. Predictions is not what I like to do, and it’s definitely not a pleasant job to predict anything in prizefighting. Yet I have my opinion and it hasn’t changed after Gennady’s recent performances – I’m still positive that the one fighter to beat Gennady has yet to be born," wrote Provodnikov.

“Canelo is young, Canelo is masterful, Canelo is talented but Golovkin is better than him in almost every department, save for speed maybe. The outcome will be defined by the durability of Canelo, by how long he is able to keep Golovkin at bay and to sustain his offence. Alvarez is not a dancer in the ring but I won’t be surprised if he starts “boxing”. I know it myself when a real, feared fighter turns into a so-called “boxer” after a few of my punches land cleanly. The fight will tell it but I believe in my man Gennady and I’ll root for him”.
